IRA Interstate Racing Association

Tatnell Claims Victory at Cedar Lake Speedway

The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Sprint Car series first rolled into Cedar Lake Speedway on August 21 of 1999. On that night Travis Whitney picked up the win. Since then 38 more races have been contested with 19 different drivers collecting wins. Scott Winters, in 2010, became the winningest driver in IRA competition at the Cedar Lake Speedway, but it was a record not meant to last.
When the series visited last fall, Brooke Tatnell behind the wheel of the 2KS machine collected his 5th victory with the IRA at the 3/8th mile track to tie Winters. Fast forward to 2021 and Brooke Tatnell is now piloting the famous Dewall 16 and set his sights on toppling Winters record.
A dash win put Tatnell on the front row and in perfect position to claim his 6th victory, but the stacked field with more than 40 combined championships across the Midwest starting behind him would not make it easy. Jake Blackhurst stalked Tatnell and the Dewall owned car through the feature, as Bill Balog, Austin McCarl and Carson McCarl all suffered bad luck taking them out of contention. Through multiple restarts, Blackhurst fended off challenges from series points leader Scotty Thiel all the while attempting to mount a challenge for the lead, but ultimately Tatnell proved to be the strongest car, pulling into Cedar Lake Speedway Victory lane for the 6th time in IRA competition, solidifying his place in the record books.
The IRA outlaw Sprints will be back in action Saturday May 15 with the All Star Circuit of Champions at the Dirt Oval Route 66 in Joliet Illinois. As always if you can’t make it out to the track, it will be streamed live on Flo Racing.
