Meyer Wins Opening Night with Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints

Steve Meyer and Justin Henderson traded the lead multiple times as they battled around the high banked Beaver Dam Raceway. When the checkered flag fell it was Meyer victorious over Henderson and Jake Blackhurst.

27 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 sprintcars signed in to compete at Beaver Dam Raceway for the Wipperfurth Memorial Triple Crown. Qualifying saw Scotty Thiel set quick time over Mike Reinke and Brandon McMullen. Ben Schmidt would be 4th and Justin Henderson rounded out the top 5.

Heat Race 1 saw Scotty Thiel drive from 4th to 1st to pick up the win and have a chance to sweep the night. Ham Lake Minnesota’s Ryan Bowers would finish in 2nd over 2016 champion Jeremy Schultz. Jake Blackhurst would bring his #25 car home in 4th followed by the racing policeman Paul Pokorski.
Heat 2 would see the Thone Motorsports entry piloted by Justin Henderson pick up the win over defending champion Bill Balog. Scotty Neitzel and Mike Reinkie would finish in 4th and 5th respectively. Russel Borland driving for the new Wiese Motorsports would round out the top 5.
Heat Race 3 would be won by Kris Spitz in his red #4k machine. Steve Meyer would finish 2nd over Matt Vandervere. Brandon McMullen and Tim Haddy would finish in 4th and 5th.

B main action saw Ben Schmidt pick up the win over Mike Decker. Scott Biertzer would finish 3rd over Illinois' Trey Datweiler and Nick Matuszewski.

The A main got off to an exciting start as Kris Spitz took the lead but quickly saw pressure from Steve Meyer. The pair would battle early but the caution would soon wave as Tim Haddy got upside down in his 21H machine. Meyer would use the restart to get around Spitz and gap the field. With Meyer out front Justin Henderson worked his way into the 2nd position and began to real Meyer in. Henderson would eventually work his #83 around the #85M of Meyer but it would not last long as Steve Meyer battled back and took not only the lead but the win. Henderson would settle for 2nd. Jake Blackhurst moved around Balog in the closing laps to finish on the final step of the podium. Bill Balog and Scotty Thiel rounded out the top 5.

The IRA will be back in action next Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway.
