Austin McCarl Triumphant at 34 Raceway

(West Burlington, IA) With another 48-car night field, it was night number two of Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints Season Opener. When we went green for our 30 lap feature, it was Carson McCarl and Bill Balog leading the field to the green. We would go green but shortly rerack the field for Paul Nienhiser. We would crack the whip one more time in turn 4 to begin. Balog would jump to the early lead over McCarl on the backstretch. Chase Randall would follow closely behind Balog to maneuver around the 6 and begin to shorten the distance between himself and the North Pole Nightmare. Behind this action, it was McCarl versus McCarl. Austin would hold off on the pass as the caution was thrown for Chris Martin with only five laps scored. When we returned to racing, Randall was all over Balog for the top spot. Randall and Balog would exchange lines, but the 17B hung on to the lead. This battle would remain the race to watch until the two came in contact with each other heading into turn one, bringing out a red flag for Balog.

After an open red, it was Randall, C. McCarl, and A. McCarl as the top 3. Austin McCarl would challenge his brother Carson for second and would make the pass on the cushion with 15 down, 15 to go. Parker Price-Miller would move into third. Randall would weave through traffic to place numerous cars between him and A. McCarl. The Indy Race Parts 71 would challenge C. McCarl as the caution would wave again. Randall would lead the field to green with 10 laps remaining. He would be followed closely by A. McCarl, Price-Miller, C. McCarl, Eliason. Joe B Miller also moved up 6 spots to be 5th on that restart. Eliason and Price-Miller would battle for the final podium spot as we counted the laps down. The white flag flew but the lap was not completed as a spin from the 23 of Russel Borland brought out a caution. With a green-white-checkered finish, it was Chase Randall, Austin McCarl, and Cory Eliason rounding out the podium. However, Chase Randall would be found light at the scales. This would result in a DQ for the team and move Austin McCarl as the winner of the feature event. Cory Eliason second, and Parker Price-Miller third.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car series will make its next appearance at Beaver Dam Raceway for the Jim Wipperfurth Memorial next Saturday, April 15th. Pits open at 4:00, Gates Open at 4:30, and Racing begins at 6:30. Can’t be there? Watch the action live on FloRacing.
