“The Drought is Over”-Goldesberry Breaks Winless Streak at 141

Just when it seemed like things were looking up for Jordan Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 Team, they wrecked twice in one night at Superior and had a damaged shock send them to the work area at Cedar Lake. Then the team turned to 141 Speedway, where they’ve had nothing but podiums and wins dating all the way back to 2021.

It was finally business as usual this year, as Goldesberry stood triumphant atop the #65’s wing, holding daughter Lexia and surrounded by family and friends after winning an incredible IRA feature at Wisconsin’s baddest bullring.

“Maybe we’ll go to 141 about six times next year.” Goldesberry said with a laugh.

The entire night went just about according to plan for the Springfield, IL based team. 5th in qualifying, 3rd in their heat race, 2nd in their dash and the #65 lined up 4th for the 30 lap feature.

What ensued will be talked about for years to come.

Goldesberry solidified himself inside the Top 5 early as fellow Illinois driver Kyle Schuett set sail at the front, while the top 2 in series points Scotty Thiel and Jake Blackhurst began a nearly six car battle for the final podium spots. However, after several caution flags and a red flag stoppage for the #10W of Mike Reinke and the #88 of Chris Flick, the top runners all bunched back up for a 9 lap dash to the finish.

Goldesberry ran steady on the low line in turns 1 and 2 while hammering the top through 3 and 4. The top 2 of Schuett and Thiel immediately began an all out war for the top spot and allowed Goldesberry to close. With just 6 laps to go, Goldesberry dove low once again in turns 1 and 2 while Thiel and Schuett ran side by side on the higher line, and the 2022 IRA Champion found just enough room below them to sneak by and grab the lead and then check out on the field as chaos ensued behind him.

While the rest of the field slugged it out for 2nd on back, Goldesberry stayed calm and collected at the front and crossed under the checkered flag over three seconds clear of Thiel for his first win of 2024.

“We’ve had a good amount of speed since the Knoxville Nationals and were stringing together some Top 5’s, but we definitely hit a rough patch up north.” Goldesberry admitted. “It was great to come back to 141 and keep our streak here alive, and get this monkey off our back. It’s been a tough year but this all makes up for it. Hopefully we can finish the year strong and carry some momentum into the off-season.”

The win marked Goldesberry’s third straight at 141 Speedway, and fifth straight season where the team scored at least one feature win in 410 Sprint Car competition.
Goldesberry and the IRA tour will take this weekend off, and return for championship weekend in doubleheader fashion. On Friday, September 27th the series heads to the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, WI for a rescheduled date from this spring at the ultra-fast high-banked 3/8 mile oval. Then on Saturday, September 28th the season concludes at the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships held at the Plymouth Dirt Track where four separate sprint car divisions will crown season points champions.

Tickets for next weekend’s races will be available at the facility on race day, and will be broadcast live on FloRacing for those unable to make it to the track.
