Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints Challenged by Early Season Weather!

May 11, 2013, Wilmot, WI – It’s become far too familiar around the state of Wisconsin this spring… weather related cancellations of short track racing events. Unfortunately the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints have also seen their share of postponements. The planned IRA event at Wilmot Raceway planned for Saturday Night, May 11th had to be cancelled due to wet grounds.

A cold and wet spring, coupled with heavy overnight rains made the track grounds too wet to allow competitors to enter the pit area leaving raceway officials no choice but to pull the plug on the program.

On a positive note the series schedule has gained an additional date as the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway has claimed Friday Night, September 13th for the “Superstitious Sprint Special”! “Friday the 13th” will not be feared by those in attendance as both the IRA 410 Sprints and MSA 360 Sprints will make up the open-wheeled portion of the show. A third class has yet to be determined for the event.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series will now head to Beaver Dam Raceway for their second show of the year. The banked third mile clay oval presented the season opening Jim Whipperfurth Memorial event for the series two weeks ago and the finish was one for the record books. Bill Balog managed to slip past Mike Kertscher in the final turn to capture the main event by a mere .009 seconds. So close was the finish that replays of video clips showed the margin of victory to be less and six inches!

The May 18th race program at Beaver Dam Raceway will also include Modifieds, Legends and Grand Nationals in addition to the 410 Sprints.

Pit gates will open at 2:30pm with the main gates opening at 4:30pm. Racing is set to get underway at 6:30 pm. The IRA Sprints will qualify with heats and main events to follow for all classes.

General admission is $20 for adults, with a youth ticket being sold for $10 to fans ages 6 though 11. Children ages 5 and under are admitted FREE with a paid adult.

Event information can be found on the Beaver Dam Raceway website at www.wismotorsports.net or by calling the track at (920) 887-1600. Beaver Dam Raceway is located on Racetrack Road just east of the intersection of Hwy 151 and 33 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
