DOUBLE DOSE OF 410 SPRINT CAR ACTION AGAIN THIS WEEKEND

Triple Crown at Cedar Lake Speedway and Norm Nelson Classic at Angell Park Speedway set to host the action!

May 27, 2014; Appleton, WI. – Hot on the heels of the last double-header weekend, the teams of the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints are about to double up the excitement again.

This week, teams will criss-cross the state, bringing the power, and fury of 900 horsepower winged 410 sprints to another pair of venues.

First up is a trip to the renown Cedar Lake Speedway, known for it’s major short track special events, the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints will play their role in the third annual Triple Crown, a shown which is hosted at the track on Saturday night May 31st.

Featuring a stout purse topped by $3,000 to win the Triple Crown program will also present Late Models and Modifieds. This show brings all the best to Cedar Lake Speedway!

Grandstands open at 5:00pm. Racing is set to get underway at 6:00pm. Tickets are $25 for adults; $12 for students age 6-16 and 5 and under are FREE!

Mike Reinke topped the IRA portion of the inaugural Triple Crown event held in 2012 at the banked, three-eights mile, clay oval. Bill Balog captured the event last season over Jim Moughan and two-time IRA champion Travis Whitney. Balog and Whitney are expected to square off again this season along two dozen other drivers seeking a trip to victory lane.

To reach the track take Highway 94 West to Highway 63. Travel North on 63 and travel 14 miles to Highway 64. Turn left on 64 (West) and travel approximately 7 miles to Highway 65. Turn right on 65 (North) and travel approx.. 1.5 miles to 210th Ave. Turn left on 210th and travel approx. 4 miles to County Road CC. Turn right on County Road CC (where the Outpost Bar is). Track is 1.5 miles on the right.

Once the show is over at Cedar Lake teams will get a few hours rest then hustle down the road to the historic Angell Park Speedway. Recently revamped to make the track more sprint car friendly the Sunday June 1st program will mark the first appearance for winged 410 sprints in 29 years. The show will be known as the "1st annual Norm Nelson Classic".

The race will honor Norm Nelson who won the first ever midget feature at the track on June 2, 1946. Nelson also won inaugural Interstate Racing Association (IRA) Championship in 1960.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlow Sprints will be part of a four division show which will also include, Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Racing Series, Badger 600 Micros, and the Wisconsin Dirt Legends.

Grandstands open at 4:30 pm, practice and qualifying beginning at 6:00 pm, with racing to follow. Adults are admitted for $20, while a student ticket is available for $15. Children under the age of 12 are admitted FREE
To reach the track, take the Highway 19 exit East off of Highway 151. Head through the town of Sun Prairie. On the east side of town take County Trunk N (Grove Street) south one block to Miller Drive. Turn onto Miller Drive and you will see the raceway.

Currently Balog and Phillip Mock sit atop the season win list with two victories each. Balog, seeking his seventh series title has the edge in the current standings by 96 markers over Mock and he swept last weekend’s double header taking wins at Wilmot Raceway and 141 Speedway.

Rookie of the Year contender Scotty Thiel sits third in points having just scored his first podium finish in the series, and he sits just ahead of former World of Outlaw Series regular Bill Rose who narrowly missed victory in the season opening show. Last season’s Rookie of the Year Jeremy Schultz rounds out the top five in current points, all of the aforementioned drivers are expected to appear at both shows.

The 2014 Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series season will consist of 30 shows to be held at 15 different area tracks.
