IRA Interstate Racing Association

Triple Crown at Cedar Lake

25 drivers were in attendance for the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association’s (IRA) portion of the Triple Crown at Cedar Lake. In qualifying Ohio’s Cap Henry, piloting the potent Buffalo Wild Wings 82, set quick time over Bill Balog and Parker Price-Miller. Point leader Scotty Thiel would be 4th quick, and the top 5 was rounded out by 2015 IRA rookie of the year Kyle Marten in the Oostburg Concrete 99.
Heat race 1 saw fast qualifier Henry drive from 4th to the lead to claim the checkered. Justin Henderson would finish 2nd followed by Thiel, Neitzel. Todd King would finish 5th in the Rhys and Pam Layton owned 19.
Heat 2 would see Ham Lake Minnesota resident and contender for 2017 Rookie of the year, Ryan Bowers take the early lead, he would unfortunately hit the wall, knocking the rear end out in an attempt to avoid a spinning car. With Bowers heat race over, Bill Balog would inherit the lead, and the eventual win. Craig Dollansky would bring the Mojo Motorsports 14aj home 2nd, followed by multi time NOSA champion Wade Nygaard. Marten would come home 4th and the top 5 would be rounded out by Washington’s Tayler Malsam behind the wheel of the Rudeen Racing 26.
Heat 3 action saw Price-Miller drive from 4th to the lead, to pick up the win. 2 time IRA champion Travis Whitney would finish 2nd followed by Steve Meyer. The top 5 was rounded out by Matt Vandervere and Scott Uttech.
A main action saw pole sitter Henderson jump out to the early lead. Lap 7 would see a red flag, as King would get upside down in the 19 while running in 4th. 2 laps later Steve Meyer spun his Meyer Electric 85m in turn 2 to bring a caution back out. On the restart front running Dollansky spun exiting turn 4 and collected Balog’s Rhine Auto car sending them both to the work area. The final caution came with just 8 laps to go when Trent Stengl spun his 7s machine. Just before the caution Henry got around Henderson bringing Price-Miller with him. With 2 laps to go Price-Miller would get around Henry for the lead. Price-Miller would collect the checkered flag followed across the line by Henry, unfortunately Henry would miss the scales on his way back to the trailer and be relegated to a 15th place finish. Nygaard would officially be scored 2nd from his 12th place starting position. Henderson would finish 3rd followed by Thiel. The top 5 was rounded out by Malsam. Bowers would collect hard charger honors as he drove the 73 machine from 22nd to an 8th place finish.
