Balog Collects Third IRA Victory of 2019

The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association A main was exciting as the first 20 laps went caution free. Bill Balog had worked his way into the lead and was quickly cutting through traffic, working to keep Indiana's Brandon Wimmer behind him. A caution with just 10 laps to go would give Wimmer a chance on open track to work around the Rhine Auto 17B, but Balog proved to strong and drove away from Wimmer and into victory lane. Wimmer would hang onto second over Jeremy Schultz. Jake Blackhurst would finish in the fourth position followed by two time IRA champion Scotty Neitzel.

22 teams were on hand at Angell Park in Sun Prairie on what turned out to be a beautiful night in Wisconsin. Osborn and Son Trucking Qualifications saw Scotty Thiel set quick time behind the wheel of the Professional Plating 64 car. Bill Balog was second quick over the previous nights winner, Jake Blackhurst. 2018 IRA rookie of the year Hunter Custer was fourth quick and Dave Uttech rounded out the top five.

Heat race number one saw fourth starting Scotty Thiel pound the cushion all the way around the historic oval to gain the lead. Brandon Wimmer brought his 7TW across in second followed by Scotty Neitzel and Hunter Custer. Steve Meyer in the Meyer Electric 85M finished in the fifth position.

The second heat saw Joey Moughan in the Oz Motorsports 73AF jump out to the early lead. Moughan would face challenge from Bill Balog but as the ten lap affair concluded it was Illinois’ Joey Moughan victorious over Balog. Jeremy Schultz brought his Bob Hood owned machine home in third followed by Dave Uttech and Mike Reinke.

Heat three saw Russel Borland quickly drive from his third place starting spot to the lead. Jake Blackhurst would follow Borland to the front, but as the heat race came to an end, Blackhurst could not reel Borland in as the Wiese Trucking 23 car took the checkered flag. Blackhurst would settle for second. Austin Deblauw, originally from California would finish in third while Jordan Goldesberry and Kris Spitz rounded out the top five.
