Balog Wins at Wilmot Founders Night

26 of the strongest winged 410 sprint car teams in the upper Midwest signed in to do battle at Wilmot raceway for Founders Night with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series.
In Osborn and Son Trucking qualifying Bill Balog set quick time in the Rhine Auto 17B over Mike Reinke and Blake Nimee. Russel Borland was fourth quick while multi-time Wilmot Raceway track champion and former IRA series champion Jeremy Schultz was fifth quick.
Heat race number one saw Joey Moughan take the early lead but quickly faced a challenge from Bill Balog. Balog would take the lead away from Moughan and take the win. Moughan was second followed by Russel Borland, Scotty Neitzel and Johnny Fahl.
The second heat race saw Jeremy Schultz and Mike Reinke make contact on the start that turned the Bob Hood 10w around and sent Reinke to the tail. Once the race got going Scott Biertzer took the lead and never looked back, picking up the win over Brayton Lynch and Todd Daun. Jeremy Schultz finished in fourth and Mike Reinke drove back to the fifth spot.
The third and final heat race saw Jake Blackhurst take the lead from pole starting Todd King on the first lap and check out from the field, but with three laps remaining Blake Nimee had moved into second and reeled in Blackhurst, the pair took turns sliding one another in each corner, trading the lead multiple times in the final laps. Ultimately Blake Nimee would come up victorious leaving Blackhurst to settle for second behind them Todd King finished third, Dave Uttech fourth and Kris Spitz fifth.
Dash one to set the inside first 5 rows of the A min saw Russel Borland and Dave Uttech run wheel to wheel into turn one. Dave Uttech would eventually take hold of that top spot and claim the win over Russel Borland. Mike Reinke brought the Bob Hood 10w home in third followed by Jake Blackhurst and Brayton Lynch.
Dash two saw Balog take the early lead over Jeremy Schultz. Balog would take the win to claim the outside front row starting position in the A main with Jeremy Schultz in second. Jake Blackhurst finished in third followed by Blake Nimee and Scott Biertzer.
The A main got off to a rocky start as Dave Uttech tipped his 68 machine over the banking and brought out a red flag. Uttech would be able to continue but would be forced to give up his pole starting position and take the green from the tail of the field. Balog would take the early lead from outside the front row but Russel Borland did not let the 17B get far, the duo entered lapped traffic as Borland kept close to Balog. A yellow for contact between Uttech and Blake Nimee would bring out a yellow and give Balog an open track. Balog proved unstoppable at the birthplace of the IRA amassing a half a lap lead over Russel Borland by the time the Checkered flag flew. Mike Reinkie finished in the 3rd spot with Jeremy Schultz and Scott Biertzer rounding out the top 5.
