Thiel Takes Wilmot

With just 3 races left on the schedule for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, teams entered Wilmot Raceway for the final time in 2021.

Mike Reinke would start the night off setting quick time over Scotty Thiel. Leading rookie of the year contender Kyle Schuett won the first heat while Scotty Thiel and Scotty Neitzel won heats 2 and 3. Blake Nimee and Scotty Thiel won the 2 dashes putting them on the front row for the A main. The B main was claimed by Nick Daywalt, who has countless laps around the Wilmot Raceway in a Lightning Sprint but very few in a full sized sprint car.

With the A main field set it was time for the main event. Blake Nimee took the lead as the event went green while Scotty Thiel settled into second. Mike Reinke would move into third and begin to battle Thiel for the second spot. On lap 7 Reinke battled past Thiel but would only hold second for a lap before Thiel moved his Oz Motorsports entry back into second and tracked down the 79 of Nimee. Thiel would work past Nimee who was having over heating issues and into the lead while Nimee and Blackhust began to battle for second. While fighting for the runner up position, Blackhurst would enter turn 1 too fast and spin out. On the restart Blackhurst would once again end up facing the wrong direction, and a second yellow unassisted would end his night. As the race neared its end, Mike Reinke had taken control of second spot but had nothing for the Gibbsville Cheese 73 which would claim victory. The real excitement came from Scotty Neitzel who sensed a chance to eat into Blackhurst points lead going into championship weekend, and used late race restarts to charge into the third spot as the checkered flag waved.

The season will conclude next weekend with a pair of events, Friday night the series heads to the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and then on Saturday night all 3 IRA divisions are joined by the MSA 360 sprint cars for the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Both events will be streamed live on Flo Racing for anyone who cannot be in attendance.
