HUNTER SCHURENBERG SEALS THE DEAL AT 34 RACEWAY

HUNTER SCHURENBERG SEALS THE DEAL AT 34 RACEWAY
By: Madeline Schultz (Chatty Madi)

On Friday, April 7th, 2023 the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series made its 2023 season debut at 34 Raceway. 48 racers from across the nation gathered to race at the 3/8th mile to kick off Midwest sprint car racing.

When the green flag dropped on the 30-lap feature, it was Joe B Miller who dove into the early lead. Defending the bottom of the track, Miller would hold off the ‘young-gun’ Chase Randall (9), Hunter Schurenberg (55), Parker Price-Miller (29M), and Bill Balog (17B) through the opening circuits. We would draw out the first caution of the night and restack the field. Bill Balog would make the move on Price-Miller for fourth on the restart, but we would soon find ourselves reracking the field once more with Ian Madsen in the 2KS with six laps in. Miller would lead the field back to green. Randall and Balog would dance on the high side to try to make moves on competitors as Parker Price-Miller charged to third to catch up to Schurenberg. 19 laps remained as Miller would hit lap traffic to close the gap between him, the 55 of Hunter Schurenberg, and the rest of the field. With another caution and regroup, we restarted the field and Parker Price-Miller would overtake the lead over Miller and Randall with 14 laps remaining. Schurenberg and Balog would be next to challenge Miller for the position. Schurenberg would pass Miller and begin to hunt down Parker Price-Miller.

As the laps counted down at 34 Raceway, the field was chasing “The Law Firm”. On our feature's closing circuit, Price-Miller, Schurenberg, and Randall chased the podium. Heading into turns 1 and 2, Schurenberg would find momentum and make a move for it not to stick, but switched lanes to the cushion in 3 and 4. Schurenberg would hit the cushion just right, tap the wall at the exit of turn four to pass Price-Miller for a photo finish.
