Goldesberry Earns Top 5 in Chaotic IRA Feature at Cedar Lake

With heavy rains soaking the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI, a massive question mark hung over the IRA’s first of two visits to the high banked three-eighths mile in 2024. However, the track crew and IRA series officials pulled together and somehow made the surface raceable, but it was clear it would be incredibly fast and technical all night.

“Like I said after Red Hill last week, wet and heavy tracks really aren’t my style.” Goldesberry admitted. “I’m just happy we could come away with a solid finish on a couple tracks like that.”

Goldesberry had found success at Cedar Lake in the past, including a runner up finish at the 2021 Jerry Richert Memorial, but those track surfaces were nothing like what the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team experienced this past Saturday night.

A solid 8th place qualifying effort out the 2022 IRA Champion on the outside pole of his heat race, and used the advantageous starting position to his advantage. Goldesberry rocketed around the outside of Danny Schlafer to take the lead on lap 1 and never looked back, scoring his second IRA Heat Race victory of 2024.

After a 3rd-3rd run in his 4 lap dash, Goldesberry lined up 6th for what would be one of most chaotic and memorable IRA feature events in recent memory. Moving immediately into the top 5 positions, an absolute dogfight in lapped traffic ensued on an extremely rough and fast track surface. Doing battle with the likes of eventual feature winner Scotty Thiel, Scott Winters, Jake Blackhurst, Travis Arenz, Brendan Mullen and more, Goldesberry expertly kept the Flamin’ Hot/HyVee Fast & Fresh #65 under control for 30 laps and brought home an extremely solid 4th place finish.

“I was happy with the car early in the night.” Goldesberry stated. “We just missed it a bit for the A Main, but still ended with a good finish. Definitely could have been a bit better, but glad it wasn’t worse on a track like that. Hopefully next week we can get back up on the podium at Sycamore.”

Next up on the #65 team’s schedule will be at a track Goldesberry nearly took the hardware home at in 2023; the Sycamore Speedway in Sycamore, IL on Saturday, May 11th. The Springfield, IL based team will have the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 on display at the HyVee Fast & Fresh on 2720 DeKalb Ave in Sycamore, IL this Saturday from 12-2PM.

The entire 2024 IRA Sprints season will be broadcast live on FloRacing, and additional “outside” races will be added to Jordan Goldesberry Motorsports’ 2024 schedule at a later date.
