Goldesberry Earns Hard Charger Award with Storming Drive at Wilmot
“It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish” is sometimes an overused saying, but Jordan Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 Team embodied that old adage this past Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway on IRA Founders Night.
The beginning of the night was lackluster to say the least, with a 13th place effort in Qualifying and a 7th to 7th run for the Springfield, IL based team in their heat race.
“I really outdid myself in getting us in a hole on Saturday.” Goldesberry admitted. “The 7th place in the heat race put us in a B Main for the first time this year, but we took the opportunity to test some things before the A Main and luckily it worked out and we were able to transfer.”
Goldesberry stormed through the B Main field on the high side of the Wilmot Raceway, driving from 7th to 2nd at the checkered. The result earned the 2022 IRA Champion a 22nd place starting spot in the night’s 30 lap A Feature.
The main event went much like the B Main, with Goldesberry scything his way through the stacked 24 car field quickly making it into the top 10 runners. In the closing laps, the #65 wound itself up on the top once again and overtook even more cars to cross the finish line in 7th place.
“We have such a fast car later in the night.” Goldesberry stated. “Hopefully we can start one of these deals up front sooner than later.”
Next up in 2024, the #65 Team will head back to Wisconsin to take on the World of Outlaws at Beaver Dam Raceway for the Jim Boyd Memorial. The event kicks off Friday night, May 31st with $12,000 on the line and concludes Saturday, June 1st for a whopping $20,000 to win.
