Dominant Performance: Thiel Claims Victory in Green to Checkered at the Prairie.

Dominant Performance: Thiel Claims Victory in Green to Checkered at the Prairie.

30 of the best of the upper Midwest checked in to battle at the prairie on Sunday, June 9th. Jake Blackhurst would take home the BOX3 Media Hot Lap award, Mike Reinke would set QuickTime with a 12.476.

Heat races were won by Jake Blackhurst, Tylar Rankin, and Kyle Schuett. Dash winners to set the front row were Jake Blackhurst and Scotty Thiel.

It seemed like a 2023 rematch between Thiel and Blackhurst when the lead the field to the green. Fans excited the battle those drivers could put on. At the drop of the green, Thiel would take the early lead with a drive on the remaining tack on the bottom side of the raceway. Blackhurst would follow closely behind second, Reinke third and Kyle Schuett fourth.

Thiel would quickly approach lap traffic as the 73 would charge into turns three and four. Reinke would make the pass on Blackhurst for second. The battle to watch was behind the “cheese wagon” 73 as Reinke, Blackhurst, Rose, and Schuett would fight for podium positions. Reinke would get sucked into the turn 2 wall, but would remain in second.
Ten laps in the books, it was 73, 10W, 96, 6, 9k. Max Guilford would be the next driver to try to break into the top 5, passing the 9K with a drive on the backstretch. Neuman would follow suit behind him, but mechanical gremlins would force the 3N to retire early into the infield.

We would stay green as Thiel would have a backstretch between himself and the Bob Hood Motorsports’ 10W. Thiel would continue to drive around lap traffic and would relieve the halfway home signal from the flag stand.

Reinke would continue to try to close the gap between the 10W and 73, but the 73 would continue to put lap cars between them lapping up to almost the top ten.

Race fans would count the laps down for the “Big Wheel” as Guilford would pass drivers for a podium spot with just a handful of laps to go.

Thiel would take the checkered in a Green to Checkered spectacular feature at Angell Park Speedway. Mike Reinke would finish second, and Max Guilford would round out the podium.

The IRA Sprints return to Wilmot Raceway on Saturday June 15th for the Father’s Day Sprctacular.
