Thiel quick with Outlaws at Wilmot; Will work toward crown in IRA King of the Wings trio

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (July 15, 2024) - It was a hard-fought battle in the Badger State for Scotty Thiel and Team 73, joining the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in a trio of starts at Beaver Dam Raceway (July 10) and Wilmot Raceway (July 12-13), respectively. But when the dust finally settled, the recent IRA Outlaw Sprint Series winner found himself with three main event starts in three tries, highlighting all outcomes with an 11th-place score at Wimot on Friday, July 12.
Thiel, ace of the Team 73, Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Iron Buffalo Saloon, GRP Motorsports, Lake Home Retreats, Elliott Family, Diamond Pools, No. 73 sprint car, battled ahead five spots to earn the aforementioned 11th-place finish, earning his place in the Badger 40 opener with a fourth-place score during heat race competition.
As noted, Thiel was three-for-three in main event appearances, finishing 16th with the Greatest Show On Dirt at Beaver Dam on Wednesday, and 24th in the Badger 40 finale at Wilmot on Saturday. Deceiving in some respect, Thiel’s Beaver Dam result was impressive, battling back to 16th after restarting at the tail due to a spin.
“We’re always striving for more, but we managed to put together some solid runs against the Outlaws and we’re proud of that. Advancing as far as we did at Wilmot on Friday is something to be proud of. I think we were even better than where we finished, we just needed to capitalize earlier on in the program,” Thiel explained. “Hats off to this team. Racing at that level can be pretty demanding, but they never give up. We have another big weekend ahead, so we’ll head to Minnesota and North Dakota with the goal to win.”

Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2024 campaign with three nights of Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings action on Thursday through Saturday, July 18-20. Featuring the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, action will begin at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota, on Thursday, followed by back-to-back nights at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Friday and Saturday.
