Scotty Thiel and Team 73 display perseverance in wild weekend at Plymouth and The Hill; Gondik and Cedar Lake next

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (September 3, 2024) - Nonetheless, it was a wild weekend in the Badger State for “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73, continuing their quest for an IRA Outlaw Sprint Series championship with visits to the Plymouth Dirt Track and The Hill Raceway on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1. Although falling short of victory, the Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native was close, closing out their Labor Day Weekend double with back-to-back top-fives, all of which highlighted with a runner-up score at The Hill short track on Sunday, September 1.
Thiel, ace of the Team 73, Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Iron Buffalo Saloon, GRP Motorsports, Lake Home Retreats, Elliott Family, Diamond Pools, No. 73 sprint car, started 11th in his eventual runner-up pursuit, forced to start deep after contact with an infield tire during qualifying set him back.
Just one night prior at the Plymouth Dirt Track, Big Wheel finished fourth, but not without a little chaos. The IRA championship point leader led early from the outside-pole position, but a hiccup in traffic resulting in an eventual spin sent Thiel to the back of the running order. He would eventually recover, but chances for a fourth triumph were cut significantly.
“Just one of those weekends. If we would have kept ourselves in a little less trouble, I think we could have been in contention to win both events. But that’s how it goes,” Thiel mentioned. “Excited for our upcoming visits to Gondik Law and Cedar Lake. The IRA season is coming to a close quickly…we want that championship.”

Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will resume IRA Outlaw Sprint Series action at Gondik Law Speedway and Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 6-7.

Finished second and seventh in River Cities Speedway doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, July 19-20. Earned IRA triumph at Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, on Friday, July 26. Finished sixth at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on Saturday, August 17. Finished fourth and second in IRA doubleheader weekend at Plymouth Dirk Track and The Hill Raceway on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1.
