Big Wheel rallies at Cedar Lake; IRA championship quest to continue at 141

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (September 9, 2024) - Scotty Thiel and Team 73 had their hands full during their recent weekend of competition, and despite some unexpected hiccups and challenges, one of which a nowhere to go situation at Gondik Law Speedway, the “Big Wheel” concluded his two-race sweep still on top of the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series championship chase - padded by nearly 60 markers heading into the coming weekend’s visit to 141 Speedway.
Thiel, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Iron Buffalo Saloon, GRP Motorsports, Lake Home Retreats, Elliott Family, Diamond Pools, No. 73 sprint car, finished 13th and seventh during his recent weekend stretch through the Badger State; scored 13th in the aforementioned visit to Gondik Law and seventh in the 24th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial at Cedar Lake Speedway. Although Cedar Lake’s end result was the product of forward progress, rallying all the way from row seven, Thiel’s Gondik Law outcome was technically an unexpected DNF, forced to end action due to a slide job gone wrong - he was on the receiving end.
As noted, despite the chaos, Thiel’s IRA championship lead remains strong. Only three events are left standing on the 2024 calendar including 141 Speedway on Saturday, September 14, followed by a doubleheader weekend at Mississippi Thunder Speedway and Plymouth Dirt Track on September 27-28.
“Just one of those weekends. We’re still on top of the points, which I’m proud of, but we’d much rather have a clean and unscathed last three races,” Thiel was quick to note. “Can’t say enough about this team and everyone who helps us. It’s a total-team effort each and every weekend. We’ll head into 141 with our heads up and focused.”

Finished second and seventh in River Cities Speedway doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, July 19-20. Earned IRA triumph at Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, on Friday, July 26. Finished sixth at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on Saturday, August 17. Finished fourth and second in IRA doubleheader weekend at Plymouth Dirk Track and The Hill Raceway on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1. Finished seventh at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Saturday, September 7.
